This keeps both hands free during spraying and eliminates pressure fluctuation that can affect spray pattern consistency. Battery-powered models cost significantly more than manual units ($150 to $350 versus $40 to $120 for manual) and add battery maintenance and charging to the ownership requirements. For homeowners who apply liquid lawn treatments frequently, the convenience justifies the premium. For occasional applications, a quality manual pump unit is the more practical choice.


Pressure Regulation

Consistent operating pressure is important for two reasons: it determines whether the spray pattern remains consistent across the full tank volume, and it allows application rates to be calibrated accurately.

Pressure-regulated backpack sprayers include a regulator valve that maintains a set pressure regardless of how aggressively you pump. Unregulated sprayers deliver high pressure immediately after pumping and declining pressure as the charge dissipates.
